Configure Data Services

The integration of SAP Data Services Designer into SourceConnect Management Console significantly enhances its capabilities. SAP Data Services Designer is a development tool that allows users to create objects that transform data, including data flows, workflows, and data quality.

By integrating SAP Data Services Designer, Management Console can access and integrate data from various sources. This ensures that the console has access to the most relevant and up-to-date information, enhancing its ability to manage user authentication and authorization effectively.

It acts as a connection repository for accessing SAP Data Services, SLT, SAP applications, and persistent cache.

To configure data services

  1. Select the second icon on the left primary bar > Data Services > Data Integration Server. The Data Integration Servers window appears.
  2. Select the Add button. The Add Data Integration Server window appears.
  3. In the Overview tab, enter values for the mandatory options as described in the following table.
    Option Description

    Name

    Enter a friendly name.

    Description

    Enter a brief description about the data integration server.

    ETL Type

    SAP Data Services (default value)

    A Success message appears.

  4. Go to the Connection tab. The layout of this page has the following screen elements:
    • Search bar across the top.
    • Table containing Type, SAP Data Service Health Status, and Actions columns.
    • Next, Cancel, and Save buttons at the bottom.

    The following table describes the connection types present on the Connection page:

    Option Description

    SAP Data Services

    Window to enter the CMS connection details.

    SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT)

    Window to enter the SLT connection details.

    SAP Applications

    Window to enter SAP Application logon details.

    Persistent Cache

    Enter the folder path to the persistent cache that must be present in the server where application is hosted. Type of cache that retains its data after the process exits thereby improving performance. Default value for:

    Windows: C:\insightsoftware\SourceConnect

    Linux: /var/

  5. Select the Actions option for the SAP Data Services connection type and select Edit. The SAP Data Services dialog box opens.
  6. Enter values for the options described in the following table.
    Option Description

    User Name

    Enter your SAP Data Services user name.

    Password

    Enter SAP Data Services password.

    Host Name

    Enter the host name on which SAP Data Services is running.

    CMS Authentication

    Select Enterprise (default value), LDAP, or Windows (No SSO for both LDAP and Windows both).

    Port

    Enter the port on which the SAP Data Services Web service is running. The API endpoints should be able to reach this port. Default value is 8080.

  7. Select Connect after entering the appropriate values. The connection details are validated and upon successful connection, a repository list is displayed.
  8. Select the repository you want to work with by entering the repository password. This repository can be based on Microsoft SQL Server or SAP HANA database. Note that in scenarios involving multiple source systems, having multiple repositories is relevant. There will be a 1:1 relationship between each DI server and DS repository.
  9. On selecting Save, the connection will be validated and the details will be saved if the connection is successful.
  10. Select the Actions option for the SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT) connection type and select Edit. The SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT) dialog box opens.
  11. Enter values for the self-explanatory options as displayed in the following screenshots and select Save.
  12. Select the Actions option for the SAP Applications connection type and select Edit. The SAP Applications dialog box opens.
  13. Enter the required self-explanatory fields for the SAP Applications option and select Save.
  14. Select the Actions option for the Persistent Cache connection type and select Edit. The Cache Directory Path dialog box opens.
  15. Enter the location that should be used by the cache to retain the entered details. For example:

    Windows: C:\insightsoftware\SourceConnect\MasterMapping\Cache

    Linux: /var/log/insightsoftware/SourceConnect/MasterMapping/Cache

     

    On entering an invalid path and selecting Save, an error message is displayed. For example:
  16. On entering a valid path, the persistent cache location is saved successfully.
  17. Go to the Configuration tab and enter the SAP Data Services Install Location by browsing to the appropriate folder. Enter the path till the bin directory from where the tool will be picked up and used to run the relevant commands.
  18. Select Save and navigate to Data Services > Data Integration Servers. You will see that your data integration server is added to the list and the repository health status is also indicated.
