Introduction to SAP Central Finance Master Data Replication by insightsoftware for SAP S/4HANA
SAP Central Finance Master Data Replication by insightsoftware for SAP S/4HANA reconciles data from multiple data stores, and the reconciled data can then be used with SAP S/4HANA. Master Data Replication is designed for organizations that cater to SAP S/4HANA Business-to-Business (B2B) scenarios. The users and administrators of the application are the employees of organizations using SAP S/4HANA.
Note: The option of replicating master data by harmonizing data is deprecated for releases starting in January 2024.
System Architecture
The architecture provides a comprehensive on-premises solution for integrating and managing master data across SAP and non-SAP enterprise systems. It enables real-time data synchronization and centralized master data management within the SAP S/4HANA ecosystem.
Architecture Components
Source Systems Layer
Source ERPs (SAP and non-SAP)
- Contains the original ERP data that needs to be replicated
- Supports both SAP and third-party ERP systems
- Data is accessed through Change Data Capture (CDC) mechanisms
Other sources (flat files and others)
- Accommodates additional data sources beyond traditional ERPs
- Includes flat file imports and other external data feeds
- Provides flexibility for diverse data integration scenarios
Data Integration Layer
SAP Data Integrator Server (HEC Managed Service)
- Central data processing engine managed as a service
- Performs real-time CDC, data discovery, extraction, mapping, and data preparation
- Handles complex data transformations and business logic
- Connects to source systems through ODBC Read Access
Staging database (MSSQL, HANA)
- Temporary storage for processed data before final replication
- Contains Stage DB Objects for intermediate data processing
- Supports both Microsoft SQL Server and SAP HANA platforms
- Enables data validation and quality checks
Target SAP S/4HANA Environment
SAP Fiori
- Provides modern user interface for master data management
- Enables user-friendly access to master data functions
- Supports mobile and web-based interactions
Master Data in S/4HANA
- Central repository for cleansed and validated master data
- Integrated with core S/4HANA business processes
- Includes ABAP Add-on (BAPI) for extended functionality
Central Finance
- Specialized component for financial master data
- Includes Business Mapping capabilities for financial data transformation
- Supports financial consolidation and reporting requirements
Reconciliation Fiori Apps, CDS Views, Virtual Tables
- Tools for data quality monitoring and validation
- Provides reconciliation capabilities between source and target systems
- Enables real-time data verification and discrepancy resolution
Data Flow Architecture
The system uses a hub-and-spoke model where:
- Green lines represent Master Data Dataflow from sources to S/4HANA
- ODBC connections enable secure data access from multiple source systems
- Smart Data Access (ODBC) provides direct connectivity to the HANA database
- Data flows through staging areas before final replication to ensure data quality and consistency
System Architecture (Cloud)
The architecture provides a comprehensive hybrid solution for integrating and managing master data across on-premises SAP and non-SAP enterprise systems with cloud-based SAP S/4HANA PCE. It enables real-time data synchronization and centralized master data management through insightsoftware's managed cloud services hosted on AWS.
