Set Up Network Connectivity

As the SAP subnets and end-user subnets are separate, two separate VPN tunnels must be configured.

  • VPN connection to SAP network
  • VPN connection to the customer network

The following diagram depicts a high-level overview of the setup in a SAP Cloud environment.

VPN Connection to SAP Network

To download the necessary SAP data to the SourceConnect Cloud environment, you must set up connectivity to your SAP systems. The SourceConnect support team will help you with this configuration. Our SourceConnect consultant will need a temporary VPN account to log in to your network in order to connect to your network and access your SAP system remotely.

A secure VPN tunnel must be set up between the SourceConnect environment and the network that hosts your SAP environment. To start setting up this VPN connection, your SourceConnect expert will provide you with a VPN form that requests you to fill in the following details:

  • Make of your router
  • Model of your router
  • Public IP of your router
  • IP range of your router

The expert will set up the VPN tunnel on the cloud side once they get that information. After that, the consultant will provide you with a VPN script to configure and activate the VPN tunnel. You will require the support of an IT or support employee on your side to accomplish this task.

Setting up the VPN tunnel usually takes some time as both sides need their side to be configured correctly for the tunnel to be secure. Allocate time at the beginning of the project to set this up, as it will most likely involve several meetings and testing sessions.

Once the VPN tunnel has been established, the SourceConnect system can safely and securely attempt to connect to the SAP system to retrieve the data.

VPN Connection to the Customer Network

If the SAP systems are not in the customer company network but located in a different data center, a second VPN tunnel will need to be set up between the SourceConnect environment and the customer company network. The second VPN tunnel can be used by end users to securely connect to the SourceConnect environment using BI tools and create or view their reports.
